Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver Returns With A Striking Green Dial
Nivada Grenchen introduces a limited edition Antarctic Diver featuring a striking green dial, inspired by a 1970s Antarctic-Sea model known for its emerald green dial and cushion-shaped steel case. While the modern reinterpretation departs from the previous case shape, opting for a contemporary round stainless steel case, it preserves the vintage aesthetic through its vibrant dial design.
Encased in a 38mm stainless steel body with a thickness of 12.90mm, the new Antarctic Diver showcases a brushed finish on the surfaces and polished sides. The double-domed sapphire crystal enhances durability, while the bidirectional-pressure bezel, featuring a black ceramic insert and diving scale, adds to its functional appeal. A screw-down crown positioned at 3 o’clock bears the brand’s signature, and the solid screw-down case back boasts a gold-colored medallion depicting a penguin with the “Nivada Antarctic” inscription in relief. Designed for adventure, the watch ensures 200 meters of water resistance.
The sunray-brushed green dial shifts between lighter and darker shades depending on lighting and angle, exuding a dynamic visual effect. Rectangular block-shaped hour markers provide a balanced layout, with the 3-6-9-12 o’clock markers crafted in metal and the remaining indices filled with a cream-latte-colored patina lume. The baton hands also feature this vintage-inspired lume. Completing the design, a white printed minute and second track lines the edges, harmonizing with the brand’s lettering and retro logo at noon. The “Antarctic-Diver” inscription at 6 o’clock stays true to the original typography. While the 1970s model included a date window adjacent to the crown, only 75 of the 150 limited units will feature this detail, with the rest maintaining a cleaner dial aesthetic.
Powering the new Antarctic Diver is the Soprod PO24 automatic movement, equipped with 25 jewels, hacking seconds, and hand-winding capabilities. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it delivers a reliable yet modest 38-hour power reserve.
The watch is available with multiple strap options, including rubber or leather straps priced at €955, while those preferring a steel flat link or beads-of-rice bracelet can opt for the €1,145 variant. Limited to just 150 units, this exclusive release blends vintage charm with modern craftsmanship, making it a coveted addition for collectors and dive watch enthusiasts alike.
