New Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A Debuts with Date Display
Blancpain expands its professional diving watch lineup with the introduction of the new Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A. Derived from the Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa launched in 2023, the latest model retains the collection’s specialized underwater capabilities while adding greater versatility through a date display and a new interchangeable strap system.

Designed for extended-duration dives, the Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A stands apart from conventional dive watches thanks to its patented three-hour timing system. While traditional dive watches rely on a 60-minute bezel, Blancpain developed an alternative solution to accommodate the longer underwater sessions made possible by modern closed-circuit rebreather technology.
At the heart of this system is a dedicated hand that completes one full rotation every three hours. Working in conjunction with the unidirectional bezel, which is graduated accordingly, the mechanism allows divers to monitor extended bottom times using a familiar and intuitive display. The concept was originally developed in collaboration with renowned underwater explorer Laurent Ballesta and the Gombessa Expeditions team.

The watch is housed in a Grade 23 titanium case measuring 47 mm in diameter and 14.81 mm in thickness. Its architecture follows the design introduced on the Fifty Fathoms Tech Gombessa, featuring a central lug construction intended to enhance wrist comfort despite its substantial dimensions. Built for professional use, the case offers water resistance up to 300 metres and includes a helium escape valve for saturation diving environments.

Legibility has been a key focus throughout the design. The dial features Blancpain’s proprietary “Absolute Black” treatment, a surface capable of absorbing up to 97% of incoming light. This significantly reduces reflections and enhances readability in challenging underwater conditions.
To further improve visibility, Blancpain differentiates diving and timekeeping functions through the use of two luminous colours. Blue-emission Super-LumiNova is reserved for all diving-related indications, including the dedicated three-hour hand and bezel scale, while green-emission Super-LumiNova highlights standard timekeeping elements. Applied block-shaped hour markers and the cardinal numerals also glow green, creating a clear visual distinction between the watch’s functions.

Powering the Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A is the manufacture Calibre 13P5A, an automatic movement derived from Blancpain’s well-established Calibre 1315. Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the movement incorporates 35 jewels and benefits from a triple-barrel architecture that delivers an impressive five-day power reserve. For the first time within this technical configuration, Blancpain has also integrated a date display, enhancing the watch’s practicality beyond professional diving applications.

Another notable update is the new strap attachment system. Thanks to the central lug construction, straps can be exchanged without tools, allowing owners to quickly change the look of the watch. The Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A is supplied with an orange rubber strap, while black and white alternatives are available separately.
Joining the collection as a permanent model, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Tech Ref. 5019A is priced at CHF 20,500.
