Mido Unveils Versatile, Thin 39mm Ocean Star For 80th Anniversary
The Mido Ocean Star celebrates its 80th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion it is now launching a scaled-down version of its historic dive watch that the brand claims to be the most versatile and thinnest watch in its category.
The new Mido arrives in three colour variants, in a compact 39mm case measuring just 10.50mm thick, textured dial, mechanical movement, 200m water resistance, steel bracelet and at a very competitive price.
The watch wears a round stainless steel case with a mainly brushed finish, unidirectional diving bezel with pip-lume at 12 o’clock, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown with the brand’s logo at 3 o’clock, solid case back held by screws and the 200m waterproof already mentioned.
The dial features an embossed wave pattern in gradient tones, with a shade of blue that extends from the bottom beyond the half and fades to black, a colour scheme that is replicated on the aluminium insert bezel and which could lead the most distracted people to think that it is a GMT watch. In it, we can find, applied hour markers and hands filled with Super-LumiNova, a date window with a white background next to the crown, a minute track ring scaled in white and finally the brand’s inscriptions followed by “Automatic” at noon and “Ocean Star” preceded by “Caliber 72” at 6 o’clock.
In addition to the black-blue variant, there are two more, a classic one for most purists in black and grey with an orange second-hand tip and another with a completely sand tone dial that, like its black bezel, comes with gilt accents.
The new Midos Ocean Star 39 are powered by the Caliber 72 automatic movement based on the ETA A31 that comes with a Nivachron balance spring, operating at 25,200 Vph and offering 3 days of power reserve.
The watches arrive attached to a 3-row steel bracelet with a folding clasp matching the case and hit the market with an attractive price of €1,190, which could be a great value for the market.
