The Vulcain Cricket Nautical, a revered dive watch from the 1960s, has made a triumphant return through a collaboration with Massena LAB. Known as one of the earliest dive watches to feature an alarm, this retro revival celebrates its historic connection to record-setting diver Hannes Keller, who used it during a groundbreaking 222-meter dive validated by Jacques Cousteau.
This limited-edition timepiece is crafted with precision, featuring a polished stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter and 17.50mm in height. Its robust design includes a domed sapphire crystal, two crowns strategically placed at 3 and 4 o’clock for controlling the central plate on the dial, and a pusher at 2 o’clock. With a solid case back and water resistance of up to 300 meters, the watch is as practical as it is stylish.
The standout feature is the chocolate brown dial, adorned with a detailed decompression table, a minute track, and a chapter ring with luminescent hour markers. The beige luminescent material extends to the hands, including the lollipop seconds hand and the additional central arrow-shaped hand outlined in red, which is used to set the alarm. This intricate design ensures functionality and readability under water.
Powering the Vulcain Cricket Nautical is the hand-wound Cricket Alarm Caliber V10. This movement operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour and boasts an impressive 52-hour power reserve, thanks to its dual-barrel configuration. The mechanical alarm remains a signature feature, adding both utility and historical charm to the watch.
