Marathon Launches Special Arctic Red Maple GSAR For Canada’s 157th Birthday
Today is Canada’s 157th birthday and to mark the date, the Canadian Marathon watch brand is launching two editions of the 41mm GSAR (Government Search And Rescue) dive watch.
The two new watches come with an Arctic white dial with a red maple leaf and are distinguished by the fact that one joins the permanent collection while the other is a limited edition of 157 pieces that, in addition to coming with individual numbering on the case back, it is engraved with the designation “ADANAC” on the case profile, which is the backward spelling of Canada.
Marathon became known for producing military watches supplying the armed forces of different nations, was during the 80s when it produced watches for the Government that could not come with any inscriptions on the dial the brand started to insert the designation ” ADANAC” on the case back as a way to differentiate your watches.
The new watches wear the traditional 41mm wide and 14mm thick stainless steel diving case, unidirectional bezel with 60-minute scale, sapphire crystal, large knurled crown at 3 o’clock with guards, screwed solid case back and 300m resistance the water.
On the bright white dial we find black Arabic numerals on two scales, one from 1 to 12 o’clock on the outside, and the other from 13 to 24 o’clock on the inside, which are accompanied by Tritium gas tubes that also illuminate the syringe hands and the inverted triangle of the bezel at noon. A date window at 4:30, a red centre seconds hand that matches the maple leaf at noon and finally, the black inscriptions of the brand’s lettering at 6 o’clock and the radiation logo at 3 o’clock.
These two editions come equipped with the 26-jewel Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, which runs 28,800 Vph and offers up to 38 hours of power reserve.
The limited edition comes with a steel bracelet, while the version that now joins the permanent collection, in addition to the steel bracelet option, also is available with a rubber strap option with prices starting at USD 1,600, excluding VAT.
