dTo mark the upcoming Lunar New Year, Longines expands its Master Collection with a limited-edition model dedicated to the Year of the Horse. Produced in 2,026 pieces worldwide, this special release combines traditional watchmaking, symbolic design elements, and a clear focus on craftsmanship rather than novelty alone.

Dial and Display

The most distinctive element of the watch is its deep red sunray-brushed dial, finished with a subtle gradient effect that shifts with the light. Red holds strong cultural significance within Lunar New Year traditions, often associated with prosperity, celebration, and renewal. Longines pairs this dial with applied gilt Arabic numerals and matching leaf-shaped hands, ensuring strong contrast and legibility.

At 6 o’clock, the watch features a moonphase complication integrated with a date display. The moonphase aperture adds visual balance to the dial while reinforcing the Master Collection’s reputation for classical complications presented in a refined layout.

Case and Wearability

The watch is housed in a 42 mm stainless steel case with polished surfaces that emphasize its formal character. Sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the proportions remain consistent with other Master Collection moonphase references, making it familiar to long-time Longines enthusiasts.

On the wrist, the watch is paired with a black alligator leather strap secured by a triple safety folding clasp with push-piece opening. The understated strap choice allows the dial to remain the focal point without unnecessary distraction.

Movement and Artistic Detailing

Inside, the Longines Master Collection Year of the Horse is powered by the in-house L899.5 automatic movement. Operating at 25,200 vibrations per hour, the calibre delivers a power reserve of up to 72 hours and incorporates a silicon balance spring for improved resistance to magnetism and enhanced long-term precision.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement’s yellow gilt rotor is engraved with a galloping horse motif inspired by the work of renowned Chinese painter Peon Xu. The engraving also includes the artist’s personal seal, reinforcing the cultural connection behind the edition. As the rotor moves with the motion of the wrist, the engraved horse appears animated, adding a dynamic visual element to the movement.

The caseback itself is engraved with “YEAR OF THE HORSE – LIMITED EDITION – ONE OF 2026,” clearly identifying each piece within the limited production run.
