Longines Brings Back The 50s Conquer Central Power Reserve
Longines, which celebrates 200 years of life and another 70 of its Conquest line, brings back the unique watch from 1959 that came with a central power reserve.
This recreation of the watch from the late 50s now comes more mature and with a more contemporary look, whose renovation also extends to the interior through the new Caliber L896.5.
On the outside, the watch now appears in a modern 38mm round stainless steel case with a polished finish, smooth bezel, sapphire crystal on the front and back, fluted crown with the brand’s signature and 50m water resistance.
On the domed dial we find three color variants, one in champagne tones that comes with gilt accents, another in gray that comes with rose gold details and finally a black one with silver inserts. Featuring applied baton hour markers that appear shorter and wider at the 12-3-6-9 o’clock positions as they add a thin layer of luminescent material that we can also find on both hour and minute syringe hands, a date window cleverly positioned at the 12 hours with a background in the same tone as the dial, and two rotating central discs with the inner one designed with a pointer with a wider tip and an outer one with dots and Arabic numerals with 8-hour increments that together indicate the power reserve available.
At its heart now lives the new automatic movement supplied by ETA, which reaches 25,200 Vph and offers a comfortable 3 days of power reserve, which interestingly is 45 hours more than the original 1959 model.
The three variants come attached to an Alligator leather strap with a pin buckle, in black for the champagne and black variants and in anthracite for the gray variant.
The watches can be purchased at the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers for a price of CHF 3,650.
Our Opinion
It’s another wonderful surprise brought by the Swiss brand that celebrates 2 centuries of existence.
The new watch is incredibly designed, offering a sophisticated and elegant look, where even the date window that normally causes us a lot of buzz seems to fit perfectly into the layout of the dial.
The black version is the one we liked the most, however we have no doubt about the beauty of them all, in a word, if there is any doubt, we really liked it.
