Lebond’s Fusion Of Architecture And Horology
Lebond is a watchmaking brand that is not guided by traditional standards, following a different path expressed in the vision of Asier Mateo, owner of the brand, who chooses to bring a new design every year by the hands of different renowned architects.
In the first year, the task was handed over to Portuguese Álvaro Siza who presented a square watch in diamond position that came with a cream or black dial adorned with Roman numerals and unconventional hands powered by an automatic movement.
This year’s project was once again handed over to a Portuguese architect, this time Souto Moura, who chose to bring back a round case with an off-centre dial. A concept that is not new and is designed with drivers in mind so that they do not need to turn their heads to read the time.
The watch features a Grade 5 titanium case measuring 38.50mm in diameter and just 7.60mm thick with central singular lugs, sapphire crystal and fluted crown at 4 o’clock, an open case back with the architect’s signature and 50m water resistance.
The dial comes in two colour variants, in the traditional beige or new grey tone where we find lipstick hour markers and a dot minute track, an Arabic number 2 marking noon, two black centre hands and a date window with a white background next to the crown.
Like the previous edition, it’s powered by the 21-jewel ETA 2892 automatic movement but this time with a date module, which runs 28,800 Vph and offers up to 50 hours of power reserve.
The watches come attached to a blue leather strap in the beige version or black in the grey one with a folding clasp that can now be purchased on the brand’s website for €2,700.
