Crafted entirely in 18k red gold, this model blends sophisticated design with high-performance engineering and pays homage to a pivotal moment in the brand’s history. A Tribute to 15 Years of Independent Watchmaking

More than just a new variant, the Sport Auto 79 Red Gold commemorates the 15th anniversary of the Laurent Ferrier brand. The number “79” in the name is a direct reference to the brand’s origins: on June 10, 1979, François Servanin and Laurent Ferrier crossed the finish line at the 47th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving a Porsche 935 Turbo. Against formidable competition, the duo secured a remarkable third place overall, a result that not only marked their shared passion for motorsport, but would later inspire the founding of their eponymous watch company in 2010.

Red Gold Case, Streamlined Form

Maintaining the same proportions as its titanium predecessors, the Sport Auto 79 Red Gold features a 41.50 mm case with a thickness of 12.70 mm, executed in solid 18k red gold. The ergonomics are refined, with gentle curves, polished bevels, and vertically brushed surfaces that flow seamlessly into the integrated bracelet. A ball-shaped screw-down crown and domed sapphire crystals on both sides contribute to the watch’s 120-meter water resistance, reinforcing its sporty yet elegant character.

The dial introduces a cream-toned opaline finish, created through a galvanic process that results in a subtle rose-silver sheen. Red gold applied hour markers and assegai-shaped hands—filled with Super-LumiNova—add visual richness while ensuring legibility. The familiar snailed small seconds, sloped date window at 3 o’clock, and crosshair center retain Laurent Ferrier’s recognizable aesthetic language. All printed details are rendered in powder grey for a muted, cohesive look.

Bracelet Integration and Finishing

The integrated 3-link bracelet, also in 18k red gold, mirrors the case finishing with satin-brushed surfaces and polished chamfers. It closes with a folding clasp that emphasizes security and elegance, though it lacks a micro-adjustment system. Nevertheless, the design remains faithful to the brand’s focus on wearability and fluid form.

Inside the Case: Calibre LF270.01

Powering the watch is the automatic calibre LF270.01, visible through a sapphire exhibition back. Designed for everyday reliability, it employs a Swiss lever escapement and is driven by a 950 platinum micro-rotor—efficiently integrated and decorated with a laser-engraved tribute to the 1979 Le Mans race. Operating at 4Hz, the movement offers a 72-hour power reserve and features meticulous hand-finishing: ruthenium-treated bridges, polished bevels, and mirror-polished surfaces throughout.
