Krayon Anyday: A Calendar Watch Like No Other
Krayon, the independent watch brand founded by watchmaker Rémi Maillat, has introduced an innovative timepiece that redefines the concept of calendar watches. The Krayon Anyday is the world’s first mechanical agenda watch, offering a novel approach to displaying the date within the context of the entire month.
At first glance, the Krayon Anyday presents itself as an elegant and refined timepiece. Encased in an 18K white gold case measuring 39mm in diameter and just 9.5mm thick, it features a polished finish, sapphire crystal on both sides, a smooth bezel, stepped lugs, a fluted crown at 3 o’clock with a globe design, and an open case back.
The dial comes with a blue guilloché center where faceted indexes and two central hands reside, along with the brand’s signature at twelve o’clock. A thin ring with a minute track surrounds the center, while a light blue outer ring with Arabic numerals indicates the date.
Unlike traditional date complications that show only the current day, the Anyday continuously displays each day and date across a full five-week cycle. This innovative layout allows the wearer to quickly identify weekends, which are distinguished from weekdays by a subtle color variation.
The heart of the Krayon Anyday is the hand-wound Caliber C032, a highly sophisticated movement comprising 378 components and 46 jewels. With a frequency of 3Hz and a power reserve of 72 hours, this movement is designed for both precision and reliability. A key feature of the movement is its unique cam system, which controls the date display. Two cams, visible through the display case back, play a crucial role in its operation. The first cam accumulates energy every 24 hours, advancing the date at midnight with remarkable precision (1/1000th of a second). The second cam, larger in size, rotates once every 31 days, triggering a five-position jump at the end of each month to align with the upcoming month.
The date progression is facilitated by three lightweight discs made of sapphire, aluminum, and open-worked titanium, ensuring smooth and instantaneous transitions. Additionally, two of these discs are meticulously hand-painted by Swiss artisans to indicate the day and date of the week.
Despite its technical complexity, the Krayon Anyday remains intuitive to operate. The crown features three distinct positions: the first winds the movement, the second adjusts the date forward when turned clockwise and the day of the week when turned counterclockwise, and the third sets the time in both directions at any hour. This thoughtful design ensures ease of use while maintaining the robustness and reliability expected of high-end horology.
With an annual production limited to just 45 units, the Krayon Anyday is a rare and meticulously crafted timepiece that blends mechanical ingenuity with aesthetic refinement. The watch is paired with a grained blue leather strap with an 18K white gold pin buckle and is priced at CHF 88,000.
