King Seiko Expands Collection With Vintage-Inspired KSK 6R 36MM
Just over two and a half years ago we were surprised by the unexpected return of King Seiko which left us and many fans very pleased since then the collection has grown with countless color and size variants, today counting more than a dozen models and today Seiko has just expanded the collection with three new watches in the new smallest size.
The new King Seiko KSK 6R beyond the size arrives with new colors on the dial inspired by the 50s American Preppy Ivy League, with the SPB457 Saxe Blue motivated by the Oxford shirt, the SPB459 Ivy Green induced by the regimental ties, and the SPB461 Burgundy suggested by the Rugby shirts.
But let’s get to the facts, the new King Seiko now wears a polished and brushed stainless steel case measuring 36.10mm in diameter and 11.60mm thick, sapphire crystal, smooth bezel, a straight bridge between lugs that allows the bracelet to come without end links, fluted crown and screwed case back, both engraved with the brand’s logo and 100m water resistance.
The new dial tones come with a sunray-brushed finish, faceted hour markers, Dauphine hands filled with Lumibrite beige except for Saxe Blue which comes with white/blue lume, a center seconds hand that in Ivy Green and Burgundy colors come painted gold, embossed Seiko logo at noon and King Seiko’s inscription followed by “Automatic 3 Days” at 6 o’clock.
At its heart runs the Caliber 6R51 automatic movement based on the 6R55 but without the date complication, with an accuracy between -15/+25 seconds per day, reaching 21,600 Vph and offering the 3 days of power reserve announced on the dial.
The watches come attached to a 7-row steel bracelet with a double folding clasp for €2,000.
Our Opinion
At a time when the narrowing of quality between King Seiko and Grand Seiko seems to be smaller, the recent KS is an excellent opportunity for those looking for quality similar to a GS but at a more affordable price.
The smaller case, which follows the new market trends, should also fit an audience with slicker wrists. The banishment of the date window is another highlight as it brings greater symmetry to the dial, which combined with its narrowness, seems to work very well.
We liked it but we leave the final verdict for when we see them live.
