Junghans Unveils Modern Takes On The Historic Meister Pilot Chronoscope
The Meister Pilot Chronoscope, a timepiece that emerged after World War II, was initially crafted to meet the needs of the newly re-established German armed forces. Today, this historical legacy serves as the foundation for two new Junghans chronographs, blending vintage inspiration with modern watchmaking precision. These new timepieces are available in two distinct variants, each showcasing different case finishes and dial colours, complemented by a robust automatic movement.
Encased in a round stainless steel case measuring 43.30mm in width and 14.40mm in thickness, the Meister Pilot Chronoscope exudes a bold yet refined presence. The green variant features a satin-finished case, while the grey variant sports a brushed finish, adding a unique touch to each model. A 60-minute bi-directional notched bezel with a lume pip at the 12 o’clock position enhances functionality, making it an ideal companion for pilots and aviation enthusiasts. The domed sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the prominent crown at 3 o’clock, flanked by two pump-style pushers, offers a classic chronograph aesthetic. The solid case back, secured by six screws, ensures durability and provides water resistance up to 100 meters.
The dials of these chronographs are a visual treat, available in green or grey with a gradient effect that deepens the colour towards the edges, creating a striking visual contrast. Both dials feature a Bi-compax layout with black subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock, indicating the running seconds and a 30-minute counter, respectively. The printed Arabic numerals and hands are filled with luminescent material, white for the green dial and beige for the grey, ensuring optimal legibility in low light conditions. Adding a nostalgic touch, the brand’s vintage logo is placed at noon, with the “Chronoscope” inscription in white at 6 o’clock.
Powering these timepieces is the J880.3 automatic movement, based on the reliable ETA 2892 and equipped with a Dubois Depraz chronograph module. Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz, this movement delivers precision timekeeping and a power reserve of up to 42 hours, making it both functional and reliable.
The Meister Pilot Chronoscope comes with a leather strap that complements the dial colours—black and green for the green variant, and black and brown for the grey. The straps feature pilot-style rivets near the lugs, adding to the overall aviation-inspired design, and are secured with a sturdy steel pin buckle. Prices for these timepieces are set at €2,490 for the green variant and €2,590 for the grey, reflecting their refined craftsmanship and historical significance.
