Jaeger-LeCoultre Introduces Two New Reverso Enamel Hokusai
Jaeger-LeCoultre once again pays homage to Japanese culture through two new limited editions that reproduce two of artist Katsoshika Hokusai’s most famous works in enamel.
The connection between the Swiss watch brand and the Japanese artist dates back to 2018 when one of his works was reproduced through an enamel workshop in a unique piece, three years later the formula was repeated reproducing another work by Hokusai using the same techniques and today in 2023 the enamel workshop opens again for the Japanese artist.
This time there are two works by the artist entitled ‘The Waterfall at Ono’ and ‘The Waterfall at Yoshino’ that portray Japanese culture and are displayed on the case back. The execution of each of these exceptional works required 14 layers of Grand Feu Enamel and 80 hours of hand painting whose care, in addition to the artist’s lines, also took into account the range of colours used in the original works.
The base chosen to house these masterpieces was the traditional rectangular case with a flip dial towards the case, which here comes dressed in 18k white gold, with dimensions of 27.40mm by 45.50mm and a thickness of 9.73mm, glass sapphire, fluted crown, enamel case back and 30m water resistance.
The aqua green dial features a hand-guilloché pattern, with ‘barleycorn’ and ‘lozenge’ designs for the ‘The Waterfall at Oto’ and ‘The Waterfall at Yoshino’ versions respectively, where we can also find applied faceted hour markers and two Dauphine hands.
At its heart beats the 134-part Caliber 822 manual movement, which operates at a low frequency of 21,600 Vph and offers up to 45 hours of power reserve.
The watches come attached to a black alligator leather strap with a white gold clasp matching the case material, each of which is limited to 10 pieces that can now be purchased at the brand’s official boutiques and whose price is available upon request.
