IWC continues the expansion of its Portofino line, essentially in the more moderate sizes, about 15 days ago we had the opportunity to talk here about the new 34 and 37mm variants within the same line and about which if you want to know more you can do so here, and now add a new variant to their 39mm chronographs.
The new variant that at first glance presents a layout similar to the other editions essentially brings two novelties, starting with the polished steel case that now comes with sapphire glass on the front and on the case back, which leads us to the second novelty which is the “new” movement In-house Caliber 69355 from 2018 and which replaces the old Caliber 79350 based on the ETA 7750 from 2007 and which even today continues to power more than seventy models of the brand, essentially within the Portuguese and Portofino lines.
And starting by the new Caliber 69355, it’s a column-wheel chronograph that operates at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 46 hours of power reserve, two more than the previous Caliber.
The new variant stands out for its silver dial with two subdials, a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and a small-seconds at 6 o’clock, applied rhodium-plated hour markers and central leaf hands.
On the outside, there is little more to add, smooth bezel, fluted crown flanked by the two pushers buttons that control the chronograph function, 50 meters of water resistance and a beige calfskin strap with folding clasp, which now comes with a quick-change system.
The new 39mm Portofino chronograph is now available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers for a price of €7,650, which means a prize of around €600 compared to the former models, which can be understood with the inclusion of the In-house Caliber.
