IWC Launches Its First 40mm Gold Portofino Automatic Moon Phase
IWC known primarily for its aviation-inspired designs, now adds a sense of understated luxury to the Portofino collection with this first 40 mm version crafted in solid gold.
Classic Design with a Contemporary Presence
Until now, the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase was offered either in 37 mm (including a diamond-set gold version) or 40 mm stainless steel. This new 40 mm gold reference offers the richness of precious metal in a larger size, yet keeps the design free from diamonds, giving it a clean, unisex appeal. The case’s slim profile helps maintain its elegance while offering more wrist presence than the 37 mm edition.
The dial presents a timeless layout featuring Roman numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock, complemented by slender gold-plated baton hour markers and leaf-shaped hands. A fine minute track frames the silver-plated dial, reinforcing its classic character.
Moon Phase at 12 o’clock
At the top of the dial sits the moon phase display—the signature of this model. It shows a golden moon and stars set against a deep blue night-sky disc, providing a poetic and decorative touch without disturbing the dial’s harmony. Moon phase complications are prized for their elegance, and here it serves as both a technical and visual centerpiece.

This reliable movement provides a 50-hour power reserve and is protected behind a solid gold caseback engraved with key specifications, including its 30m water-resistance rating. While not intended for aquatic use, it offers sufficient protection from everyday splashes or rain.
