Let’s go for a new Pitch Watch
Pan Am Airways, founded in 1927 and extinguished in 1991, was for more than half a century the largest international airline in the world, whose logo was for a long time the second most recognized worldwide.
During its golden age, many watch brands displayed the airline’s logo on the dials of their watches, in the form of the most different collaborations and this year, after more than 30 years of its disappearance, we have seen the rebirth of these partnerships, first through Breitling, most recently with Timex and now in a limited edition Zodiac for Hodinkee and it’s the latter we’re here to talk about.
This exclusive edition comes in the form of the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Timer GMT model, with the Pan Am colour palette as it should be.
Thus, the new Zodiac “Pan Am” comes in a stainless steel case 40mm in diameter and 13.6mm thick, a bidirectional blue world-time bezel with the various cities inscribed in white, sapphire crystal, screwed crown at three o’clock and a solid case back, and lastly 200 meters of water resistance.
Over the white background dial, a black 24-hour outer chapter ring that works in partnership with the central blue GMT hand, applied plated hour markers, baton hands in the centre filled with luminescent material, central seconds hand, date window at 3 o’clock and the inscriptions in black of the brand logo preceded by the model at 12 o’clock and the Pan Am logo in blue at 6 o’clock.
Inside, it comes with the Soprod C125 automatic movement, which operates at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 42 hours of power reserve.
The watch is attached to a three-link stainless steel bracelet with a polished and brushed finish and comes with a few extras, such as an extra black leather strap with a blue Pan Am logo, a Pan Am patch and a cleaning cloth printed with world time zone map and past Pan Am flight paths.
In all, there are 182 units that can be purchased exclusively at the Hodinkee store for a price of $1,795.
