Diver watches are without a doubt one of the types of sports watches most appreciated by enthusiasts, both male and female, and not even their substantial dimensions seem to bother those who appreciate these watches. There are countless offers on the market for this type of watch and it is almost religious any brand that prides itself on having a reasonable offer of dive watches, which is why we are increasingly surprised by new models that not only have appealing designs but also offer specifications improved, without this often means a higher price, I recall here the launch of the impressive Certina DS Super PH500M that we had the opportunity to talk about here a couple of weeks ago and which is without a doubt great value for the money.
Today we bring here another interesting release that seems to us to be a great value for the diver watches market, we are talking about the new Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional. As the name implies, this diver watch is aimed at professionals with an impressive 2,000ft or 600 meters of water resistance, helium valve which aims to protect the watch against pressure due to increasing depth and ISO 6425 certification, this is the certification that gives the watch the right to write “Diver’s” on its dial, earning this right, the brands are free to put this designation or not on the dial.
Moving on to the analysis of the Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional, it comes with a 46mm 316L steel case with a finish ranging from polished to brushed, large crown signed with guards at 3 o’clock, unidirectional steel bezel with black ceramic insert, domed sapphire anti-reflective crystal on front and also i«on the case back.
The dial features a beautiful etched wave pattern reminiscent of the dials on the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M and is offered in three variants, turquoise, blue and black. Inside applied hour indexes in different geometric shapes, with a triangle marking 12 o’clock, rectangles at 3-6-9 o’clock and circles at other hours, large sword hands and seconds hand with lollipop tip and counterbalance with the “T” of the brand, all filled with the generous Super-LumiNova, a frame date window in black at 6 o’clock, to end the brand’s registration at 12 o’clock and on the opposite side three lines of inscriptions with “Seastar” followed by “PROFESSIONAL 600M / 2000 FT ” and right below “POWERMATIC 80”.
As indicated on the dial, the new Seastar 2000 comes with the reliable Powermatic 80 movement, which offers up to 80 hours of power reserve and comes with Nivachron balance-spring, a titanium-based and antimagnetic material.
The watch is offered with a steel bracelet in both variants with a turquoise and a blue dial which are presented with 3 links with a brushed finish on the side links and polished on the central links with a folding clasp and with a black rubber strap on the black variant. Prices range from € 1,050 with a steel bracelet to € 995 with a rubber strap.
The new Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional is impressive in all, from the powerful 600M of water resistance, sapphire case back that is rare to find in a watch that offers high water pressure resistance capability and an unbeatable price under €1,000 in the variant with a rubber strap. As we mentioned in the review of the Certina DS Super PH500M the dimensions of the watch won’t be for everyone, the 46mm diameter will put a lot of enthusiasts away, I would say this is perhaps Tissot’s Achilles’ heel that overall continues to present much of its offer in exaggerated dimensions, I speak for myself, which would no doubt include the green water variant in my shopping list if its dimensions were smaller.
