Introducing The Tissot Heritage 1938 Chronometer And Small Seconds
If last year we were surprised by the arrival of the new Tissot Telemeter 1938 inspired by its vintage chronograph with different scales on the dial, now three new watches have arrived in the Heritage 1938 collection with the simple time function and in smaller sizes.
Among the novelties, we can find two Chronometer-rated watches and a small seconds, but this last is not rated.
The three new watches come dressed in a stainless steel case measuring 39mm in diameter and 11mm thick, which in the case of the small seconds is just 9.8mm high, with finishes that alternate between brushed on the case and polished on the smooth bezel, onion-edge crown at 3 o’clock, domed sapphire crystal, see-through case back and 50m of water resistance.
The two references which come with a simple time function, one features a matte black dial with gilt accents and the other a matte salmon dial and black accents. Both share positive relief embossed Arabic numerals, pencil hands, a centre seconds hand, a railroad minute track and the inscriptions of the brand’s vintage logo at noon and “Chronometer” at 6 o’clock.
Inside, they are powered by an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement that operates at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 38 hours of power reserve. The watches are attached to a brown and grey textured leather strap for the black and salmon versions respectively and can be purchased for the unit price of €875.
The small seconds version which features a grained grey dial with gilt accents comes with a slightly different configuration, starting with the running seconds at 6 o’clock in silver tones which also colours the railroad minute track and which matches the date window in white tones at 3 o’clock, lastly and unlike the other two variants the brand logo not comes printed but in positive relief such as the Arabic numerals. Inside is the ETA 2895-2 movement that brings the watch to life reaching 28,800 Bph and offering up to 42 hours of power reserve. This variant comes attached to a steel mesh bracelet but the set also includes a grey leather strap that can be purchased for €1,025.
What We Think
The brand’s latest releases seem to denote a clear commitment to vintage-inspired and classic models such as the Sideral and the reduced-size PRX, and it is in this context that these three new additions fit in, which in addition to complementing the Heritage 1938 collection appear as an alternative to the stopwatches introduced last year, thinking of a less demanding and uncomplicated public.
Like many other alternatives that have been emerging on the market, we liked its simple, elegant and classic design, however, we believe that the watches would fit better in a more reasonably sized 36mm case. As far as prices are concerned, we think that this is in line with the brand’s policy, and that translates into great value for money.
