Introducing the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7
In 1972, the iconic Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was born, which at the time became the fastest and most powerful German production car that could be driven on the road. This Porsche quickly became famous in motorsports, namely in the Carrera Panamericana.
Featuring lightweight and aerodynamic, being the first road sports car in the world to come with a front and rear spoiler, the latter, which came to be known as “duck tail”. Initially, only 500 units were expected to be produced, but that number tripled and 1,500 were produced and sold.
The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is so special that it was the first 911 to be baptized with the name ‘Carrera’ and sporting that signature on the sides of the chassis.
Today, 50 years later, TAG Heuer and Porsche mark this milestone with the launch of two limited edition TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche chronographs.
The new chronographs based on the 42mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph model come with three sub-dials at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, which correspond to a 30-minute counter, a small-second and a 12-hour counter respectively. The dial also features a date window at 6 o’clock, applied hour markers and hands filled with Super-LumiNova and a central seconds hand.
On the outside, smooth bezel, fluted crown and two pushers, sapphire glass on the front and on the case back, through which it is possible to observe the In-house Caliber Heuer 02, which runs 28,800 Vph and offers up to 80 hours of power reserve. It should also be noted that the skeletonized oscillating weight comes with the inscriptions of the two brands side by side.
There is a blue edition that comes with a stainless steel case, white opaline dial, rhodium-plated hour markers and hours and minutes hands and some “azurage” details on the dial, counters and the second’s hand. Also on the outside, the chronograph has some details in blue, namely the blue lacquered push buttons and shield logo on the crown, the ‘Carrera’ signature paint on the left case side and blue markings on the Caliber oscillating mass.
This edition is limited to 500 units with individual numbers engraved on the case back and comes with a stainless steel bracelet with the traditional ‘H’ links and an extra white Nato style strap which, like the side of the case, bears the signature ‘Carrera ‘ in blue.
Alongside the blue edition there is also a red edition, even more, restricted as it only has 250 units available and comes in an 18K 5N rose gold case. The white opaline dial comes with rose-gold-coloured indexes and hands, and several red accents, such as those seen on the blue edition.
The red edition comes with a red alligator leather strap with a solid rose gold pin buckle.
Both chronographs are already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers, and can be purchased for €7,450 and €22,300 for the blue and red editions respectively.
