Introducing the Seiko Prospex SPB381, SPB383 and SPB385 – New GMT Divers
Seiko once again bets its chips on the winning formula “Diver GMT” and reinforces its Prospex collection with three new models under the sign of a new Caliber.
The new Seiko watches are a 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation and come in two regular versions and a special “Save the Ocean” edition limited to 4,000 units.
The three watches, which share the same exterior design and dial layout as the regular versions, feature a stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter and 12.9mm thick (an increment of just 0.4mm thick), 60-minute unidirectional bezel, crown at 4 o’clock, crystal sapphire front and solid case back, and 200m water resistance. The watches are offered on a three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp.
The dial features applied hour indexes and faceted pencil hands all filled with Lumibrite, a central seconds hand with a red tip, a date window that is now at 4 ½ hours, and the main novelty is the extra central GMT hand that works in partnership with the discreet 24-hour chapter ring.
The other great novelty already announced is the new Caliber 6R54 which gives life to the new Seikos and that allows to set the GMT hand with one-hour increment forwards or backwards, whose automatic movement operates at 21,600 Vph and offers up to 72 hours of power reserve, an increase of more than 24 hours compared to the old calibre 6R64 that offered 45 hours of power reserve.
Regarding the different variants and starting with the two regular ones, the SPB381 comes with a green dial and bezel and the SPB383 black dial and bezel. These two models also share the gold GMT hand and whose shade also extends to the “GMT” inscription on the dial.
The limited edition SPB385 features an ice-blue texture dial, a blue GMT hand matching the respective “GMT” inscription on the dial and a second-hand tip in light blue instead of the regular red tip. This special edition, in addition to the steel bracelet, also comes with an extra NATO strap made of recycled plastic bottles.
The watches will be available from June 2023 with recommended retail prices of €1,700 for the two regular versions and €1,900 for the special edition.
