Introducing the Seiko Presage SPB359 the Reissue of Laurel

In 1913 Seikosha, a branch of the Japanese company Seiko took the first step in what would become Seiko’s success story, with the launch of the first Japanese wristwatch, the Laurel.

And today, to mark the 110th anniversary of Seiko wristwatches, the prestigious Japanese brand through its Presage line launches a limited edition that pays tribute to this historical model, in a reissue very similar to the original.

Like the 1913 edition, the watch comes with a white enamel dial, black and bold Arabic numerals in the same font and the 12 hours numeral painted in red, retro-styled blue hands, which the central hour and minute hand now join a central seconds hand. Like the centenary edition, the dial retains a subdial at 6 o’clock, which gave life to a small seconds but is now replaced by a date dial in the same style. Finally, this current edition also adds a discreet power hour reserve indicator at 9 o’clock and the brand’s inscriptions followed by “Presage” and “Automatic” at 12 o’clock replacing the older “Laurel”.

And if the layout of the dial is faithful to the original, the same is true of the exterior, round stainless steel case with a large onion crown at 3 o’clock in the style of old pocket watches, box-shaped sapphire crystal and solid screw case back engraved with the brand followed by “Limited Edition” and individual number in the type “0001/2500” which refers to the 2,500 units produced.

Inside it’s powered by the modern automatic movement Caliber 6R27, which operates at 28,800 Vph (8 beats per second) and offers up to 45 hours of power reserve.

Once again the watch is offered with a deer leather strap exactly faithful to the original design, characterized by its wide straps with a buckle and reminiscent of bund straps.

The new Seiko Presage SPB359 can be purchased at official brand boutiques and authorized retailers for a recommended price of €1,900 and is limited to the aforementioned number.
