Introducing the Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer
Omega has just unveiled a new Speedmaster X-33, the Marstimer, which, as the name implies, allows you to measure time both on Earth and on Mars.
And if on the outside, everything looks very similar to the predecessors Speedmaster Skywalker X-33, it comes with many new features on the inside but whose features should add little or nothing to the common mortals, but that will certainly delight many aficionados.
The exterior layout maintains a 45mm by 14.7mm Grade 2 titanium case base, crown at three o’clock and four pushers at 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock, sapphire crystal glass front and solid case back, 30 meters water resistance and titanium bracelet with folding clasp. The novelty here is the oxalic anodized aluminium bezel ring in red hematite colour, reminiscent of Mars’ distinctive dust. The same tone can also be found on the second hand, which has a black to red hematite gradient.
But let’s get to the news, inside is the new In-house Caliber 5622, a highly precise thermo-compensated quartz movement, which, in addition to allowing you to measure time and in different zones on Earth, now extends these features to the planet Mars through the Mars Time Coordinated (MTC), taking into account that the duration of a day on the red planet is 39 minutes longer than on Earth. Another novelty is the inclusion of the solar compass, both for Earth – True Solar Time Earth (STE) and for Mars – True Solar Time Mars (STM), the latter especially important since Mars has no magnetic fields. It should also be noted that the new functions add to those already existing in the Skywalker X33, such as Mission Elapsed Time (MET), Phase Elapsed Time (PET), chronograph, alarms and perpetual calendar.
The development of the new Speedmaster Martimer X-33 was carried out in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), which tested and qualified the new functions of the watch.
Finally, the watch is already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers, for the price of € 7,300 which, in addition to the watch, comes with a Nato strap, a strap change tool and a pouch with the reproduction of Hebes Chasma on the Mars surface, all in shades of black with red hematite details.
