Introducing The Nivada Grenchen Chronoking ‘Paul Newman’ Orange X Valjoux 23 VZ
In what will probably be Nivada Greenchen’s last release of the year, they bring us the reissue of the legendary Chronoking ‘Paul Newman’ Orange.
The handsome chronograph with roots in the 70s, follows the original layout with a black dial, tan-colored counters and an orange minute-seconds ring.
And if on the outside it’s the dial that shines, on the inside it’s the iconic Valjoux 23 VZ that is the main protagonist, which has been revitalized and restored. This historic Caliber was produced for sixty years between 1916 and 1974, supplying prestigious watchmaking brands such as Breitling.
The person responsible for the dial design is Jean Singer, one of the most respected dial manufacturers in Switzerland, also responsible for the iconic Omega Racing Speedmaster and Heuer Skipper dials.
As for the watch, it is presented in a stainless steel case measuring 38mm in diameter and 12.95mm thick, unidirectional bezel with black aluminum insert with 60-minute scale and a 12-hour sub-scale, domed sapphire crystal, fluted crown with the brand’s signature at 3 o’clock flanked by two pump-pusher buttons, open screwed case back and 100m of water resistance.
On the black dial we can find two recessed registers at 3 and 9 o’clock instead of the original three, which materialize in a 30-minute counter and a running seconds both in tan color, an orange peripheral ring with a minute-second track, a black tachymeter chapter ring, baton applied hour markers and hands all filled with beje luminescent material and an orange chronograph center seconds hand.
As already mentioned inside, the expenses are covered by the hand-wound Caliber Valjoux 23 VZ, a 17-jewel column wheel chronograph that operates 18,000 Vph and offers two days of power reserve. What is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful movements produced to date can be admired through the open case back.
The watch can be purchased with a wide number of strap options, including a rally-type leather strap and different steel bracelets.
It is a limited edition of just 15 units, with the pre-order period starting today for five weeks and expected to be delivered at the beginning of February 2024, with a price of €4,550 (tax excluded).
If you’re interested, get moving, as they should disappear in the blink of an eye.
