Introducing the New Vulcain Nautique
After last year Vulcain offered us a reissue of its Cricket model, now it’s time to revive its Nautique model from the 60s.
The original Vulcain Nautique was a “modest” diver watch that was mainly intended for amateur divers, hence the name “skin diver” which was used to identify this “niche” of diving watches and which was also shared by many other well-known brands at the time.
Sixty years later, the new Vulcain Nautique is now more refined and robust, and with two different colour options on the dial.
On the outside, the former small 36mm diameter stainless steel case now gives way to a more muscular 38mm diameter by 12.2mm thick and 43.8mm lug-to-lug distance, which comes with a smooth brushed finish just interrupted by polishing the edges, thin black dive bezel, faithful to the original, which now adds the refinement of a ceramic insert, sapphire glass, fluted crown at 3 o’clock, solid case back and 200 meters of water resistance.
As we already mentioned, the contemporary Nautique comes in two variants, one with a matte black dial, just like the original, and the other with a vertical brushed blue dial, with a layout very similar to the 60s model. It features hour indexes in different geometric shapes and hands all filled with Faustina luminescent material, white printed minute track and the same inscriptions as the brand logo followed by “Nautique” at 12 o’clock balanced by two lines of text at 6 o’clock filled with “Incabloc®” and “25 jewels”, eight more jewels consequence of the incursion of the new movement that we will talk about later.
Inside, there is news, the old Caliber 1686 manual movement now gives way to the reliable ETA 2824 automatic movement that runs 28,800 Vph and offers up to 38 hours of power reserve.
Both variants are offered with three leather strap options, in plain brown, plain black and carbon pattern black.
The watches are available today at the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers for €1,497.90.
