Introducing The New Seiko Presage Sharp Edge Series SPB415 And SPB417
Seiko announces the arrival of two new references to its Presage Sharp Edge Series collection, which come with an open heart and which is now joined by a 24h sub-dial.
The new SPB415 and SPB417, in addition to being more elegant and refined, thanks to the improvements made to the case and dial, are also more robust thanks to their new internal calibre.
On the outside, the 40.2mm diameter stainless steel case is now 1.7mm thicker than the previous references SPB309 and SPB311, which is not unrelated to the fact that the former flat sapphire crystal is now giving way to a dual-curved sapphire crystal. Also at the finishing level, there is an accentuation between the polished and brushed surfaces, intensifying the watch’s razor-sharp look.
The two new references SPB415 and SPB417 maintain the collection’s tradition of coming with a white and blue dial respectively, as happened with their predecessors SPB165 and SPB167 (time and date function) and the aforementioned SPB309 and SPB311 (open heart), featuring in common the “Asanoha” pattern. But the dial also comes with some new features compared to the two previous open-heart references, starting with the disappearance of the blue details on the white variant and the golden details on the blue variant, in addition to the disappearance of the central ring that divided the hour and minute markers. Adding now, applied faceted kite-shape hour markers that replace the previous baton-shape markers, which come with LumiBrite just like the hour and minute hands, a 24h sub-dial at 6 o’clock, an open-heart at 9 o’clock that now comes with a grid with the “Asanoha” pattern, 1/5th second scale outer ring and four lines of text at 12 o’clock occupied by the brand lettering followed by “Presage”, “Automatic” and “3 Days”.
Inside, as already mentioned, is the new 6R5J automatic movement, which operates at 21,600 Vph and offers up to 72 hours of power reserve (as indicated on the dial), two more than the 6R38 of the two previous open-heart references. It should also be noted that the new movement can be seen through the open case back with emphasis on the golden bi-directional rotor.
Both references are attached to a 5-link steel bracelet whose finish alternates between polished and brushed to match the case, with a triple folding clasp and a safety button.
The watches will be available from June 2023 at a recommended price of €1,300.
