Introducing the New Rolex Air-King
The much-heralded “death” of the Rolex Air-King by many has once again fallen on deaf ears, with Rolex giving it a new boost through a “lifting” case.
It is curious that the Air-King has always been a kind of ugly duckling among Rolex models, perhaps because for a long time it was Rolex’s entry-level or because it never managed to gain its space and positioning among other models of the brand, the truth is that has survived and promises to continue here in the near future.
But let’s go to the differences between the previous and now the new model, the 40mm stainless steel case becomes more angular when introducing the flat-sided case, the other change is the insertion of crown-guards, all this now gives an appearance sportier to the watch.
There are also a few novelties on the dial, with the insertion of the Arabic marker “05” replacing the previous isolated “5” thus giving a better balance to the glossy black dial and the insertion of Chromalight material in the markers applied at 3-6-9-12 hours and hands.
Inside is a new Caliber 3230 movement introduced in 2020 that offers up to 70 hours of power reserve.
The watch is offered with the stainless steel Oyster bracelet that comes with the EasyLink Oyster clasp.
Our Opinion
The case changes give the model a new lease of life, but we still consider the 40mm case too excessive and we would like to see the model return to smaller dimensions between 36 and 38mm.
