Patek Philippe has just unveiled the new Minute Repeater Alarm 1938P that pays tribute to its previous President Philippe Stern and his father Thierry Stern who also presided over the company for sixteen years.
This exclusive limited edition of 30 pieces, whose reference number is another tribute to Philippe Stern as it is his year of birth, debuts the Caliber designed exclusively for this timepiece that adds 4 new patents.
The elegant watch comes dressed in a 41mm platinum case, smooth bezel, straight lugs with screwed spring bars, the traditional diamond ‘hidden’ between the lugs at 6 o’clock, front sapphire crystal, a slide and a trigger button on the left profile, onion-shaped crown with a pusher and based on a raised layer that extend to the rear housing the hinge that allows you to handle the rear door that was often found on old pocket watches.
The Grand Feu black enamel dial, which is based on an 18k gold plate, is painted with the portrait of Philippe Stern in Grand Feu white and grey, features applied Breguet numerals and hands, with the white gold hands providing the hours and minutes and the rose gold hand the 12-hour alarm. At the bottom of the dial at 6 o’clock is a small seconds that comes with a white railway track and which we also find on the main dial preceded by gilt dots, finally, a bell-shaped opening that is preceded with the brand’s lettering.
The rear door, which on the inside is engraved with Philippe Stern’s special message to his father Thierry ‘A mon pére 85 ans de passion horologère’ reveals the splendour of the new micro-rotor Caliber R AL 27 PS, which comes with a minute repeater activated by the trigger on the left side of the case and a chime alarm with two gongs that can be activated via the slide button while the pusher button on the crown allows you to select the chime mode mirrored in the bell-shaped window. Which in a simplistic way means that in black it is in minute repeater mode, in red it is operating in alarm mode and in white it reveals that the alarm has already been activated but has not yet sounded.
The 561-component automatic movement, which operates at 21,600 Vph and offers between 43 and 48 hours of power reserve, is carefully hand decorated, displaying through the rear sapphire crystal a 22k yellow gold off-centre mini rotor with yellow gold edges and adorned with Philippe Stern’s signature in black, chamfered edges on the bridges and gilded hammers.
The exclusive watch is attached to a black alligator leather strap with a platinum fold-over clasp that can be purchased at the brand’s official boutiques and retailers for CHF 890,000.
