Introducing The New Oris Aquis Small Seconds Date
Presented to the press during Watches And Wonders, the new Oris Aquis Small Seconds Date in 45.5mm is now on the market.
The new Oris Aquis presents with a new format consummated by a running-seconds at 9 o’clock and a date window that migrates from the traditional position of 6 o’clock to the new one at 3 o’clock.
In addition to the new dial layout, the new Aquis also gains a new shade on the dial, translated into a deep blue inspired by the deep waters of the sea and an increase in water resistance from the usual 300m to 500m, which together with the Depth Gauge model from the collection become the only ones to enjoy this improvement.
On the outside, everything else remains unchanged, featuring a stainless steel case whose surfaces alternate between polished and brushed finishing, sapphire glass front, unidirectional bezel with a blue ceramic insert and a pip-lume at 12 0’clock, screw-down crown and case back, with the first being engraved with the brand’s logo and flanked by screwed crown-guards.
On the sunburst dial, we can also find applied hour markers and hour and minute hands all filled with Super-LumiNova and the white inscriptions of the brand’s lettering at 12 o’clock and three lines of text at 6 o’clock, headed by the name of the collection “Aquis” and two lines dedicated to their ability to withstand water pressure.
Inside, it comes equipped with the Caliber Oris 743 with hacking seconds, reaching 28,800 Vph and offering up to 38 hours of power reserve.
The new Aquis Small Seconds Date also comes with two strap options, one with a three-link steel bracelet and the other with a rubber strap matching the tone dial, either of which comes with a folding clasp with extension.
The watches are already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers by price. €2,500 and €2,700 for the rubber strap and steel bracelet options respectively.
Our Opinion
Despite its robustness, the option for a new format is always beneficial as it provides the public with a wider range of options.
The migration of the date window to the 3 o’clock position seems smart given the incorporation of the new sub-dial at 9 o’clock, providing better symmetry on the dial.
Undoubtedly, the new tone of the dial combined with greater water resistance are the biggest assets of the new Aquis and those that we liked the most, as far as the movement is concerned, we would say that 38 hours seems increasingly short for today and that is why it is perhaps time for the brand to rethink an up-grade of these movements.
