Introducing the New Omega Seamaster 300M Chronograph Gold, Titanium and Tantalum
This week Omega launched another old glory and as we have seen so many times in this strange year, the brands definitely decided to go looking for their memory chests and bring the best they have ever done and contrary to what you may think, this is not a criticism but applause for this effort, because it is often easier to build something new and from scratch than to rebuild something old that has already had its success.
The Omega Seamaster 300M Chronograph in Gold, Titanium and Tantalum was first launched in 1993 with Ref. 2296.80. The materials used by Omega were not new to the brand, gold has been used in many models over the years, titanium has been used since 1969, but tantalum was the first time used in the Omega universe on that specific model, so then what exactly is tantalum? Tantalum is an atomic chemical element and a bluish-grey hard metal, highly resistant to corrosion and whose price sometimes exceeds the price of gold.
About this new launch, it comes with large dimensions, 44 mm in diameter and 17 mm thick, whose main material used is grade 2 titanium, which gives it a lightweight, the other two materials used are tantalum and 18k Sedna gold both applied to the bezel and bracelet. In the bezel, an ablated laser scale diving the same technique used in the Seamaster 300M Nekton Edition, which we had the opportunity to talk about here a month ago. Within, the usual wave pattern engraved on a polished blue ceramic dial, with two chronograph counters at 3 and 9 o’clock and a daytime window at 6 o’clock, indexes and luminescent gold hands. Outside, two golden crowns and also two golden pushers’ buttons, and on one side an 18k Segna gold plate engraved with the watch number because it is a numbered edition.
On the movement, a Caliber In house 9900, with Master Chronometer certification by METAS.
This Seamaster should be available at the end of October, in a special packaging that includes the same box used by the 25-year-old Seamaster 300M Titanium, Tantalum and Gold in 2018 and for a price around € 17,500.
