Introducing The New Norqain Wild One Hakuna Mipaka LE
Norqain is once again teaming up with Hakuna Mipaka, the South African wildlife sanctuary and animal rehabilitation centre, this is the third collaboration between the two organizations, with 10% of the funds obtained from sales of the new Norqain Wild One going towards the sanctuary.
The new watch arrives in shades of brown and sand that pays homage to “King Dexter”, one of the lions that has lived in the sanctuary since cub.
This limited edition is presented with the usual round case of the Wild One line, made of the brand’s proprietary lightweight and resistant Norteq material, which measures 42 mm in diameter and 12.30 mm in thickness, which presents a brown colour on the front and back surfaces and beige on the sides, sapphire crystal on both sides, crown at 3 o’clock embossed with brand’s logo and protected by crown-guards, and 200m water resistance.
The dial, which follows the brown tone of the case’s surfaces, features a textured background pattern inspired by the lion’s fur which we can also find on the sand-toned rubber strap, gilt-applied skeletonized hour markers and hands all filled with white Super-LumiNova X1, a centre seconds hand with an arrow-shape tip and the brand’s lettering and logo at noon and the sanctuary emblem at 6 o’clock.
Inside operates the Caliber NN20/1 crafted by Kenissi, protected by a 25-component titanium case, which is chronometer-certified, operating at 28,800 Vph and offering up to 70 hours of power reserve. The automatic movement can be seen through the rear window adorned with the sanctuary name and logo and with the inscription at the bottom of “One of 300” which almost goes unnoticed when compared to the impressive message left by Dean Schneider, founder of the organization after having survived a lion attack in 2021 and whose wise words say “We need to learn to love them exactly the way they are and not the way we wish them to be”.
