Introducing the New Nomos Ludwig neomatik 41 Date (Roman)
Nomos has just announced a new variant of its Ludwig neomatik 41 date model, which at a glance could lead us to wonder what has changed.
In fact, the differences are minimal, but as less is often more, we can say that these modifications make all the difference and if you still haven’t figured it out, look carefully at the date window!
Well, one of the two, either you already noticed or if you still don’t, then I have bad news because you need to go quickly to the ophthalmologist, but if you belong to the first group, then you have noticed the novelty of the date window now showing Roman numerals.
Many will say that it doesn’t make much difference, but we think exactly the opposite, that is, that it makes all the difference. Starting with aesthetics, bearing in mind that the entire Ludwig line comes with Roman numerals on the dial, the inclusion of a disc with Roman numerals in the date window gives greater symmetry to the dial, many will wonder if it becomes easier to read or complicated and there is nothing to do there, surely reading will require greater attention and consequent reading time, unless you are talking about the first 3 numbers after that this task could start to complicate.
The second, even less noticeable change, almost overshadowed by the insertion of Roman numerals in the date window, is the new positioning of that window, which is now positioned at 3 o’clock instead of the previous 4 o’clock that comes with the Arabic numeral date window. It is also interesting to note that Nomos positions the date window on the various Ludwig models in different positions, with the Ludwig 38 date model positioning the date aperture at 6 o’clock instead of 4 and 3 o’clock on the Ludwig neomatik 41 date, which certainly contributes to not leaving your audience bored.
Having unveiled the two alterations, let’s now talk a little about what is behind this alteration, it is the patented design of the date Caliber NOMOS DUW 6101, which, unlike the vast majority of watches that have a date window that works through a wheel attached to the movement of the watch, here the novelty involves replacing this wheel with a peripheral ring to the movement, thus allowing to arrange the new Roman numerals in a harmonious way that would otherwise be almost impossible. The movement also allows easy adjustments of the date through half a rotation of the crown forwards or backwards to advance or delay one day.
Everything else remains the same on the watch outside and inside and even in terms of the price, which does not change, we can say that it becomes an individual and tastes option to choose between the version with Arabic or Roman date.
Our Opinion
As for us, every detail counts, and we could not fail to express our admiration for this new version of the Ludwig neomatik 41 date.
We fully agree that the introduction of the disc with Roman numerals brings better harmony to the dial and we hope that this change may be expanded to other sizes and models in the future.
As we mentioned above, we still consider reading the date a challenge, but as everything is a matter of adaptation, we believe that it will be a challenge overcome with time, which has a positive side, that forces us to look at the dial for longer.
