Introducing the New Longines Majetek
In 1935, at the height of the 2nd World War, Longines became one of the main Swiss watch brands that supplied military watches to various nations, and that is how, during that same year, the Longines Majetek reference 3582 was born.
The Majetek came about in response to a special request from the Czechoslovak Air Force and was produced for over a decade, between 1935 and 1948.
The original watch, which wore a 41mm stainless steel case, featured a screw-down crown, a bidirectional coin-edged bezel and fixed lug bars. While the enamel black dial, featuring a railroad minute track, Arabic hour markers and central cathedral hands all filled with Radium, a small second at 6 o’clock and an inner inverted triangle at 12 o’clock controlled by the bezel to measure elapsed time.
Already in 2014, Longines ventured out with the launch of the first reissue of the Majetek, although slightly different from 1935 original, whose highlights included a wider 42mm case, a fixed bezel and the inclusion of a date window on the dial.
Today, Longines introduces us to the new Majetek, which despite being very faithful to the original, adds some novelties, starting with the dimensions of the stainless steel case which is now 43mm in diameter, we would almost risk saying that the case grows a 1mm at each new interaction, 13.3mm thick, a bidirectional coin-edged bezel, crown with now crown-guards, and on the opposite side an engraved plaque with the year “1935”, a tribute to the original Majetek.
On the black matte dial, the same layout, Arabic hour markers and now pencil hands, all filled with Super-LumiNova in a tonality similar to the “old Radium” of 1935 original. Besides, the railroad minute track, small seconds at 6 o’clock and the inner inverted triangle at 12 o’clock attached to the bezel.
Inside now lives the Caliber L893.6 automatic movement based on the ETA A31.L91, which is chronometer-certified, operating at 25,200 Vph and offering up to 72 hours of power reserve.
The more contemporary version of the Longines Majetek is available with three strap options. An old-style brown or green leather strap with beige stitching or a khaki-green NATO strap, priced at € 4,050.
