Introducing The New King Seiko SJE089 And SJE091

There are two new additions that have just landed in the King Seiko family the new SJE089 and SJE091, and supported by the Caliber 6L35.

The two new references aesthetically are very similar to the previous ones within the collection, and present new dimensions, coming in a slightly wider and thinner case of 38.6 mm by  10.7mm, thanks to its new slimmer movement and box-shaped glass.

So on the outside, the new King Seiko wear a stainless steel case that according to the brand comes with thinner lugs, a crown at three o’clock with the KS coat of arms, a screwed case back and 100m of water resistance.

It is in the tone of the dial that the two new variants differ, with the SJE089 featuring a silver sunray dial while the SJE091 comes with a black dial. Both share the same elements and an excellent level of finish, so on the dial, we can find applied hour markers and faceted hands with polished bevels, a double textured 12 o’clock marker and a framed date window at 3 o’clock.

Inside, and as you have already noticed, the level has risen with the 6L35 automatic movement taking the space of the previous 6R, reaching 28,800 Vph and offering 45 hours of power reserve, a number significantly lower than the 70 hours previously offered.

Both references are attached to the traditional 7-link steel bracelet, which comes with a brushed finish on the surfaces and polished on the edges of the side links, and a double folding clasp with KS signature.

The watches will be available from July 2023 at a price of €3,400 each.

Our Thoughts

Seiko has been trying to raise the bar for the past two years, which is more evident in some of its collections and reflected in the prices, which are often not so justified in the eyes of the public.

We think that in this case, the same reasoning cannot apply, as the new King Seiko now come with a more refined movement, a thinner case and therefore more elegant and reliable.

In conclusion, we can say that the line that separates the new King Seiko from the Grand Seiko is becoming increasingly thin.
