Introducing the New Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date
In 2018 Jaeger-LeCoultre launched the Polaris Date, a watch inspired by its 1968 sporty model Memovox Polaris, aesthetically similar in almost everything. Since then, the Polaris collection has been adding new variants, not only with different colours but also with different complications such as the Polaris Date, Polaris Chronograph, Polaris Calendar, Polaris Mariner Date, Polaris Mariner Memovox and Polaris Perpetual Calendar, with the latter released this year 2022.
Now arrives the new variant of the Polaris Date with a green lacquered dial. The double-gradient dial depending on light exposure offers different shades of green across the dial, ranging from the lightest to the darkest tones. On the dial and as in the black variant, the same layout with a central minute track ring, Arabic numerals and hour markers in vanilla hue filled with Super-LumiNova as happens with the new skeletonized hands, date window at 3 o’clock and inner diving bezel with accents in orange.
The 42mm stainless steel case comes with the usual satin-finished surfaces, with polished chamfers on the case lugs and narrow bezel, two crowns at 2 and 4 o’clock, with the first controlling the inner diving bezel and the second the time setting and the date, front sapphire glass and on the case back, which is one of the other novelties, and lastly, 200 meters of water resistance.
Inside, it is powered by the latest generation of the Caliber 899 automatic movement, which offers up to 70 hours of power reserve and represents a valuable upgrade from the 38-hour reserve of the black variant.
Finally, the watch is offered with a rubber strap matching the hue of the dial and which comes with a quick-change system.
Our Opinion
When we have seen the arrival of countless watches with blue dials still contaminate by the “Tiffany blue dial” effect, the arrival of the new JLC Polaris in green is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air. In addition, the new Polaris Data has not just changed its face and has some interesting details that we had the opportunity to expose above.
Finally, we have to highlight the “renovated” Caliber 899 which now offers 70 hours of power reserve, which is much more in line with current reality and which will certainly make a difference for its user.
