Introducing The New Dan Henry 1972 Maverick Automatic
Dan Henry, for those who don’t know, is an avid watch collector but above all a horology enthusiast, whose hobby started more than 30 years ago led him to gather a collection of more than 1,500 watches that anyone today can appreciate and even interact with through your incredible dedicated website TIMELINE WATCH that we leave the link.
The Dan Henry brand later emerged as a response to the interest expressed by many enthusiasts in some of the watches in Henry’s collection due to their rarity, which is how the idea of recreating some of these timepieces at an affordable price arose and the result of which is in sight.
One of the watches recreated by Dan Henry is the ‘Maverick’ pilot’s chronograph based on the original 1972 Porsche Design model with the Orfina that was famous in the film ‘Top Gun’ and was worn by the protagonist ‘Maverick’ played by Tom Cruise.
What the brand brings us now is a more simplistic version of the iconic chronograph with only time and date functions, resulting in the new 1972 Maverick Automatic in two variants.
The watch once again wears the same round stainless steel case measuring 41mm in diameter and 12.90mm thick (2mm more than the original version as it now comes with a mechanical movement instead of Quartz) and one of the variants has a black PVD-coated in a stealthy style. Hidden lugs, sapphire glass front, screw-down crown at 3 o’clock and additional crown at 10 that serves to handle the internal bezel, screwed case back with a F-14 Tomcat fighter medallion and 100m of water resistance.
The black dial that comes with a sandwich construction comes with a lower layer filled with white Super-LumiNova that glows green in the dark through the hour markers cut into the upper layer and whose luminescent material we can also find on the hour and minute hands. We can also find a center seconds hand, which in the normal steel version is painted blue, while in the stealth version, like the original, it comes in red, a discreet date window at 3 o’clock and also a rotating bezel at 12 o’clock that allows you to allocate a second time zone.
Inside we find the robust Miyota 8215 automatic movement that reaches 21,600 Vph and offers up to 40 hours of power reserve.
The watches come attached to a steel bracelet to match the case with ‘H’-shaped external links and rectangular interconnecting links and a folding clasp, which can now be found in the brand’s online store for the price of USD 360.
