Introducing the New Breitling SuperOcean
It’s no secret that Breitling in recent years has been focusing on the “rebirth” of its oldest and most iconic models that, in one way or another, marked an era, and has done it very well, as we often say here, that has received very positive feedback from the brand’s fans.
And it is in the pursuit of this path very well traced by the brand’s CEO, that the new SuperOcean is now born, a watch inspired by the SuperOcean “Slow Motion” of the 60s.
Although the old Slow Motion came with the chronograph function, the new SuperOcean does not come with, adopting a design more connected to the nature of a dive watch, still conserving many of the characteristics of that vintage model, as is the case of the white 60-minute outer ring (and bronze-toned on models in these variants), the slim bezel insert and no date window on the dial.
Altogether there are 16 variants of the new SuperOcean divided into four sizes: 46mm (2 models), 44mm (5 models), 42mm (6 models) and 36mm (3 models), with thirteen models coming with a stainless steel case, two with bronze case and one model with steel and 18k red gold case. There are also many options of colours on the dial, from conventional black, white, navy blue, sky blue, green, brown and orange. It should also be noted that among the sixteen models there is a limited edition “Kelly Slater” of 1,000 units, which is presented with an orange dial. Some of the watches are offered with a steel bracelet, while others come with rubber straps in different shades.
What else can we say about the watch, on the outside, it features a steel case (except for the two bronze variants and the steel and red gold variant), unidirectional serrated bezel, sapphire crystal, solid screwed case back, screw-locked crown with crown guards and 300m of water resistance. On the dial, there are three central hands and hour indexes all in white and filled with Super-LumiNova. Inside, the Breitling 17 automatic movement operates and offers up to 38 hours of power reserve.
The watches are already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers with prices from €4,350 to €6,400.
Our Opinion
The watches are in fact very beautiful and fit the policy followed by the brand, the options are many and for all tastes and sizes, will hardly leave someone out.
As far as design is concerned, we consider it smart to present a more contemporary layout, namely through the design of the case and the range of colours offered on the dial.
The ones we liked the most? although our choice normally falls on the smaller sizes, in this case, our options go entirely to the 44mm models, having particularly liked the sky blue and bronze-brown variants.
