Introducing the New Breitling Duograph 42
The Breitling Duograph is back and it took more than 80 years, almost a century, to see one of the most iconic watches return. This is not an ordinary chronograph, it is a chronograph that presents this function squared, hence the name Duograph, a complication that occurs by the name of Rattrapante and that despite the present day it is not very common it is still possible to find in the most avant-garde collections of the most prestigious Swiss brands.
In a simple way, the watches that come with the Rattrapante function have not one but two seconds hands, both are positioned at the 12 o’clock position when stopped and therefore one of them is positioned over the other. Both hands start running at the same time when pressing the start pusher positioned at 2 o’clock, the second hand can be stopped at any time by pressing the additional pusher positioned on the crown, while the other hand continues to run and record the time, when pressed again, this hand restarts reaching the other. Finally, the pusher at 4 o’clock makes the two-second hands return to the 12 o’clock position and reset to zero. This function is extremely useful in competitions, as it allows you to measure the time of two competitors.
Both variants are stunning and classic, I personally like the gold variant more reminiscent of the old chronographs, but any one of them will delight fans of these timepieces.
And immediately switching to the watch, it comes in two variants, one in steel and the other in 18k red gold, with a 42mm case, while the steel variant features a blue dial with silver accents, the 18k red gold variant features a black dial with gold accents. On the dial, we can find applied Arabic hour markers and the brand logo, luminous baton hands with fine points, central second hands one with arrow tail and other with “O” tail, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock. The watch has a water resistance of up to 100m.
The watch is equipped with the Caliber B15 manual movement, which despite having the Duograph function comes with an appreciable 70-hour power reserve. The open rear box allows you to observe the internal movement at work through its sapphire glass. Both variants are offered with an alligator leather strap with folding clasp, in black for the 18k red gold and brown for the steel variant.
The watch will be available at the brand’s official boutiques over the next week for the price of € 9,350 and € 19,200 in the steel and gold variants respectively.
