Introducing the New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver
Let’s go to a “Pitch Watch” and if you are currently asking what it is about, this is what from now on we will start to designate here as a first and quick review on watches.
Another novelty presented by Audemars Piguet is the new Royal Oak Offshore Diver (ROOD) and at first glance, it is impressive for its simplicity but at the same time for being very attractive. This new Offshore Diver comes in three variants, in blue, green and grey, with a new movement and with the interchangeable strap mechanism.
But let’s get to it, this new ROOD comes with a new automatic movement Caliber 4308 that comes with seconds and an “instant jump” date. The unidirectional internal diving bezel is operated through a click linked mechanism on the crown positioned at 10 o’clock. The watch comes with a sapphire case back that allows you to observe the exquisitely decorated movement as well as the oscillating weight in blackened 22k pink gold.
The 42mm steel case comes with two crowns, the traditional at 3 o’clock whose function is to adjust the time and a crown at 10 o’clock whose function is to handle the diver bezel, the crowns are in black ceramic in the blue and green variants and in grey ceramic in the grey variant. The case has a water resistance of up to 300m and comes with a power reserve of up to 60 hours.
The dial features the traditional “Méga Tapisserie” pattern, silver applied hour-markers and hour and minute hands filled with luminescence and lollipop second hand, date window at 3 o’clock in the colour of the dial. The green (khaki) variant, however, has gold accents instead of silver as with the other two variants.
Another novelty in this model already announced is that they come with the new interchangeable strap system that allows you to change straps and buckles with just one click. The watch comes with a combined rubber strap and an additional black rubber strap in the blue and green variants and a blue rubber strap in the grey variant.
The watch will be available from May at a price of CHF 23,400.
First impressions, as I already mentioned, is a very appealing watch and what I like most is undoubtedly the unoccupied dial, the date window which is something that I usually do without is so well camouflaged and positioned that I even think it fits perfectly, the two dark crowns stand out and in my opinion positively. The green variant was the one that pleased me at first sight, whose gold accents with the green of the dial look phenomenal, but after seeing the grey variant taking into account its versatility and being me a discreet guy, that would probably be my choice.
