Introducing the Longines Spirit in Titanium
Longines, after bringing four steel variants of its Spirit model in recent years, with dials in black, blue, silver, and more recently in green, now decides to raise the bar and introduce the first Spirit in titanium. The new Spirit Titanium not only comes with new case material but also with a new anthracite dial.
The new Longines Spirit comes with a 40 or 42mm diameter case in Grade 5 titanium, which is characterized by being stronger than steel but also lighter and has a darker shade than steel, sapphire domed glass with anti-reflective coating on both sides, screw-in crown, and solid case back with 6 screws.
The anthracite sandblasted dial comes with gilt accents, which includes applied Arabic numerals and hands-set all filled with Super-LumiNova in glow blue, brand and applied logo followed by “Automatic” at 12 o’clock and the five stars stamped followed the “Chronometer” at 6 o’clock, the novelty here is that the date window no longer exists.
Inside everything, the same, Caliber L888.4 automatic movement, COSC certified, with silicon balance-spring that increases resistance against magnetic fields and power reserve up to 72 hours.
The watch is offered with a titanium bracelet with a triple safety folding clasp or an anthracite woven nylon strap with titanium clasp, all with an interchangeable system, with prices starting at € 2,900 and € 2,590 respectively for the 40mm versions and just over € 100 for both 42mm variants.
Our Opinion
The new titanium variant seems to us to be a good addition to the Longines Spirit collection, which gives it a higher level of refinement, we liked the new anthracite dial with gilt accents, a more conservative variant was already needed and we loved the fact that it doesn’t bring a window date anymore, because it gives a better symmetry to the dial. What we liked the least, the fact that the lug-to-lug distance is still large, which makes even the 40 mm version still look too big on small and medium wrists, and the price, despite the price increase being totally to be expected for the material used, it seems to us that the price difference of € 830 and € 520 respectively for the titanium bracelet and nylon strap versions are a little exaggerated, we remember for example the price difference of the Tudor Black-Bay with a stainless steel bracelet for Tudor Pelagos (a level above of BB) in titanium is (just) € 750 more.
