Introducing the IWC x Hot Wheels Racing Works
Last Saturday 16th October the IWC in partnership with Hot Wheels launched the limited edition “IWC x Hot Wheels Racing Works” to celebrate the return of Goodwood Members’ Meeting 78th edition after two years of intermission. This special edition of just 50 units includes a special package, consisting of a black and silver metal toolbox that contains on one side the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “IWC x Hot Wheels Racing Works” and on the other the Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Racing Works Edition”.
The first unit will be auctioned online by international auctioneer Bonhams in favor of the Two Bit Circus Foundation, whose aim is to encourage entrepreneurship, inventions, and environmental sustainability among children.
Thus, the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph is offered in a 43 mm titanium case, front sapphire glass, screw-in case back with sapphire glass and engraved individual numbering, crown with the brand’s signature at 3 o’clock, shaded by two pusher buttons that control the chronograph function and Hot Wheels logo engraved on the case profile in opposite the crown.
A laser-etched dial with a dynamic pattern of a checkered flag which comes in the usual shades of black and grey, Arabic hour markers, the triangle at 12 o’clock and central hands all filled with luminescence, central chronograph seconds hand, a day-date aperture at 3 o’clock, a small seconds at 6, a 12-hours counter at 9 and a 30-minutes counter at 12. The chronograph is powered by the in-house manufactured Caliber 69385 which offers up to 46 hours of power reserve and can be seen through the open case back where the “68” bold engraved in the center of the oscillating rotor stands out, referring to the year of creation of the IWC (1868) and also the year of creation of Hot Wheels (1968). The watch is offered with a black and gray textile strap for a price of € 11,100.
It should also be noted that the Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Racing Works Edition” including on the set, in addition to presenting the same black and silver tones as the chronograph and the number “68” in several bodywork plans, also features opening gullwing doors, the faithfully reproduced interior complete with bucket seats, roll cage and red sill trims, full external detailing including clear headlights with the MB Star braces and racing graphics and like the accompanying watch, it will only be produced in 50 units.
Our Opinion
There is a fine historical line that separates the watches and the motorized world and that is why it is very common to find more similarities than distances among its enthusiasts, we here and many other well-known channels constantly address this theme that unites these two worlds. Therefore, it is not surprising that these partnerships please and fascinate us, especially when the details make the difference and this partnership is an example of this, not only for the chronograph that is the star of the package but also for the exclusive edition of the Mercedes 300SL Hot Wheel that accompanies it and the ingenious vintage-style leaf toolbox that serves as a case for the set. Surely it will leave many collectors of both brands upside down.
