Introducing The IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph Lewis Hamilton

IWC and Lewis Hamilton come together again in what is the third collaboration between the Swiss watchmaker and the seven-time world champion British Formula 1 driver, to present a limited edition of the Portugieser Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph Lewis Hamilton.

If before the first two collaborations boasted sports models such as the Ingenieur Chronograph in a journey that began in 2014, which later extended to the Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar, now the story is different, opting for the more classic and conservative Portugieser line housing new complications such as a tourbillon, a date retrograde and a flyback chronograph.

The watch wears a platinum case measuring 43.50 mm in diameter by 15.90 mm in thickness that comes with the usual polished finish, sapphire glass front, fluted crown at 3 o’clock with two rectangular pushers, open back case fixed through four screws, and 30m water resistance.

The teal-coloured dial, which almost blends with the Petronas blue of the Mercedes F1 team, comes with a sunburst finish, where rhodium-applied Arabic hour markers reside and on which 12 diamonds are set, one for each hour, and leaf hands. But the biggest highlights of the dial are the three complications it houses, subsumed into a single register that brings together 60-minute and 12-hour counters at noon, a retrograde date display that has its centre at 9 o’clock and an amplitude that extends between the 7 and 10 o’clock, and finally one-minute flying Tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The dial is completed with Lewis Hamilton’s ‘Phantere’ logo at 3 o’clock preceded by the watchmaker’s emblem.

Inside operates the In-house gold-plated Caliber 89900 automatic movement, the first since 1993, which comes with a silicone escapement, reaching 28,800 Vph and offering up to 68 hours of power reserve.

The timepiece is attached to a teal-coloured textile strap matching the tone of the dial and comes with a platinum folding clasp.

This exclusive edition is limited to 40 pieces and can be purchased for CHF 150,000.
