Introducing the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition “AMG ONE OWNERS”

After the IWC in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One presented the first official team watch in May, a little over a month later they announce a new collaboration, this time resulting in the creation of the Big Pilot’s Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition “ AMG ONE OWNERS”. But unlike the watch presented in May, which was intended to equip the entire team but which can also be purchased by the general public, this second edition is exclusive to future owners of the performance hybrid Mercedes-AMG ONE.

By the way, Mercedes will soon initiate the production of the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar. The two-seater will transfer the latest and most efficient Formula 1™ hybrid technology almost one to one from the racetrack to the street for the first time. The performance hybrid will produce over 1,000 horsepower at a maximum speed of over 350 km/h.

But back to the watch, it is distinguished inside by the patented internal constant force mechanism that completely transmits even the force impulses to the escapement, and outside by the case that is made of titanium aluminide (TiAl), a compodium that resists high temperatures and is extremely challenging to machine.

Inside, it is powered by the manual movement Caliber 94800, which operates at 18,000 Vph and offers an incredible 96 hours of power reserve, spread over its twin barrels and which can be observed through the open Ceratanium case back.

The watch is based on a robust case measuring 46.2mm in diameter by 13.5mm in thickness, whose TiAl compodium is lighter and harder than conventional titanium, highly resistant to corrosion and biocompatible, featuring a finish that alternates between polished and sandblasted. Still, on the outside, sapphire glass on the front and case back, onion-shaped screwed crown and 60m water resistance.

The matt black dial has a smooth texture in the centre evolving into a radial texture where Arabic hour markers and the triangle with two dots marking 12 o’clock are applied, which together with the central hour and minute hands are filled with luminescent material. Highlights include the grand tourbillon at 9 o’clock, the double moon phase display at 1 ½ o’clock and a power reserve indicator at 4 ½ o’clock.

The watch will be offered with a two-tone rubber strap, which is black on the outside and green on the inside, whose Petronas green matches with several accents on the dial and case.
