Introducing the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch 43 in Titanium and Bronze

IWC has just expanded its Big Pilot’s Watch 43 collection, with two new models, one with a titanium case and black dial and the other with a bronze case and green dial.
The IWC over the years produced and supplied watches to the various branches of the British military, which became known as “mil-spec” service watches, which were characterized by the high precision of their movements, extreme ruggedness, legible dials, and technical features as the soft-iron inner cases that protected them against magnetic fields.
Inspired by the historic mil-spec, the two new watches feature a 43mm diameter case, the usual onion-shaped crown, titanium case back engraved with iconic Spitfire airplane, and a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields.
The IW329701 comes with a grade 5 titanium case and crown in addition to the aforementioned case back, with a gray matte color resulting from the elaborate surface treatment which is initially polished and then sandblasted.
The dial layout is inspired by the historic Type-B dials, which is completely new to the current IWC collection, and features two independent scales, with a white minute and seconds scale outer ring, and a gray 24-hour scale inner ring. This type of layout, which gave greater emphasis to the scale of minutes and seconds, was widely used by pilots as they used them as a flight aid to perform tasks. The dial also features hour markers and black hands coated with luminescence material. The watch is offered with a brown calfskin leather strap.
The IW329702 features a bronze case and crown, whose material composition includes copper, aluminum, and iron, making it 50% stronger than standard bronze. The green dial displays Arabic hour markers and the traditional triangle flanked by two dots marking the 12 o’clock, gold-plated hands coated with luminescence material such as the baton hour markers. The watch is offered with a green buffalo leather strap.
Both watches are powered by the In-house automatic movement Caliber 82100 that offers up to 60 hours of power reserve. Watches beyond the standard 2-year warranty benefit from an additional 6-year extension as long as they are eligible for registration under the My IWC care program.
