Introducing The IWC Big Pilot AMG G63
IWC is teaming up with Mercedes again, this time in partnership with the latter’s AMG sub-brand, to present two new IWC Big Pilot G63 inspired by the Mercedes G-Wagon model.
The robust watches, which come mounted in a 46.50 mm diameter by 14.60 mm thick case, are wrapped inside with a soft-iron box that protects them from magnetic fields, an onion-shaped crown at 3 o’clock, sapphire crystal on the front, solid case back and 100m water resistance. The two new references come with different materials, with the IW501201 wearing an 18k Armor gold case (a gold alloy brand’s property) and the IW506201 a Ceramic Matrix Composite case developed in conjunction with the German Aerospace Center and coated with carbon fibre. Both materials in addition to the case are also applied to the crown and rear case.
The black dials are decorated with a diamond-like pattern where we can find two black counters with silver chapter rings at 3 and 6 o’clock materialized in a 7-day power reserve indicator and a running seconds. Applied Arabic numerals and sword hands all filled with Super-LumiNova, in a beige tone for the gold version and in a darkened grey tone for the ceramic version, a date window at 6 o’clock and finally the brand inscriptions in white at noon and “Automatic” referring to movement at 6 o’clock.
Powered by the In-house Caliber IW52010, which can reach 28,800 Vph and offer an incredible 168 hours of power reserve. The carefully hand-decorated movement can be observed through the sapphire case back, which is painted with the iconic Mercedes symbol wrapped in a black band similar to that found on the spare tire cover of the Mercedes G-Wagon.
The two references come attached to a black rubber strap with a microfiber inlay and matching case hardware.
The watches that now become part of the Swiss watch brand’s regular collection come with prices between €37,200 for the gold version and €49,700 for the ceramic one.
