Introducing The Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT SBGE305

As we wrote a few days ago, Grand Seiko is celebrating this year the 20th anniversary of its 9R movement line, better known among the audience as Spring Drive, which combines mechanical movement with the precision of quartz movement. 

Along with the launch of the SBGA497 celebratory edition that we already talked about, the limited edition GMT SBGE305 also arrives, which comes with a red dial. 

The new watch is inspired by the colors produced by the summer sunrise over Mount Hotaka, where the Shinshu Watch Studio that produces all Spring Drive watches is located. 

The watch, which wears a 40.50mm diameter by 14.70mm thick stainless steel case, features a brushed finish on the surfaces and Zaratsu polishing on the sides and bevels, drilled lugs, sapphire crystal, a 24-hour black ceramic bezel that can provide a third time zone, screw-down crown with the brand’s logo at 4 o’clock, screwed solid case back that comes adorned with the brand’s lion medallion and 200m of water resistance. 

The red dial comes with a sunburst finish and on it we can find a 24-hour bi-color rehaunt that works in partnership with the extra GMT hand with an arrow-shaped tip, silver applied hour markers, Dauphine hands filled with luminescent material, a date window next to the crown with a white background, a power reserve indicator at 8:30, a center seconds hand and the brand’s applied signature in gold at noon followed by its lettering. 

Inside runs the In-house Caliber 9R66 automatic movement, which is a true GMT as it allows the local time hand to be set independently, presenting an accuracy of approximately 1 second per day and offering up to 3 days of power reserve. 

The watch comes attached to a 3-link steel bracelet matching the case with a folding clasp and is limited to 1,300 pieces that can be purchased for the price of € 6,600.
