Introducing the Grand Seiko SBGH295 and SBGA471
Let’s go to the first Pitch Watch of 2022
While in the West the four seasons of the year that mark the inclination of the earth’s rotation axis in relation to the Sun prevail, in Japan they have the 24 “sekki” that mark the changes of seasons. To point out the time of transition from autumn to winter, it has what they call “Soko” and which marks the arrival of the first “ice blankets” that cover the beautiful landscapes.
Soko-inspired Grand Seiko now launches two US-exclusive models, the SBGA471 and SBGH295, both distinguished by their beautiful textured icy-blue dials that evoke the frozen trunks of the bamboo trees in the Arashiyama bamboo forest.
Grand Seiko Sōkō Frost SBGA471
The SBGA471 comes in a 40mm 44GS-style titanium case with polished Zaratsu finishing, box-shaped sapphire crystal and 100 meters of water resistance. On the icy-blue dial, silver polished hour indices and hands, central blue seconds hand, power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock and a date window at 3 o’clock and applied silver polished logo at 12 o’clock. Powered by the Spring Drive Caliber 9R65, with an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month, it offers up to 72 hours of power reserve and can be viewed through the open caseback.
Grand Seiko Sōkō Frost SBGH295
The SBGH295 comes in a 40mm 62GS-style (1967) stainless steel case, without bezel and with polished Zaratsu finishing, box-shaped sapphire crystal and 100 meters water resistance. The blue textured dial comes with silver polished accents and hands, a blue seconds hand in the centre and a date window at 3 o’clock and applied “GS” logo at 12 o’clock. Inside it is powered by the Hi-Beat Caliber 9S85 automatic movement, which offers an accuracy of -3 to +5 seconds per day and a power reserve of up to 55 hours.
Both watches are offered with a titanium bracelet for the SBGA471 and stainless steel for the SBGH295 and with an extra crocodile leather strap. The watches will be available exclusively on the US market for a recommended price of $6,000 and $6,900 for the SBGA471 and SBGH295 respectively at the brand’s official boutiques.
