Introducing the Grand Seiko ‘Oruri’ SBGW279
Here we go again! After a year ago Grand Seiko presented three exclusive editions for the American market that we had the opportunity to regret here for not being available in Europe, Grand Seiko has just done it again.
The simplicity of these watches is truly amazing considering their refinement and only those with good taste can love them as we do.
In April of this year, Grand Seiko launched two other brilliant variants of these watches worldwide, one in sky blue and the other in deep green, which was a smart move given this exclusive edition that it launches now, thus probably silencing the same voices of discontent from a year ago, where we include ourselves.
And after this rhetoric, let’s get to the point, the new Grand Seiko ‘Oruri’ SBGW279, which if we exclude the colour of the dial, is in every way the same as its “five older brothers”, with a stainless steel case measuring 37.3mm in diameter by 11.6 mm thick, smooth bezel, sapphire crystal and crown signed with the brand’s logo at three o’clock.
The blue dial is inspired by the blue plumage of the Oruri songbird, also known as the blue-and-white flycatcher, which migrates to Japan from Southeast Asia every year in early summer. On the dial, rhodium-plated hour markers, facetted hands and applied brand name and logo at 12 o’clock.
Inside, the manual-winding Caliber 9S64 operates, which offers up to 72 hours of power reserve and can be seen through the sapphire case back.
The watch is offered with a brown crocodile strap at a price of $4,600, in line with the prices of previous variants.
Our Opinion
There is not much to say about this new variant of the collection, if you have read the related previous articles you will know that we are deep lovers of these watches and this new variant that arrives in blue does not disappoint. Assuming that Grand Seiko doesn’t stop here, we can only dream about what will be next and place our own bets.
