Introducing the Breitling Super AVI Collection
After in 2020 Breitling presented the AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition inspired by its legendary chronograph ref. 765 AVI from 1953, brings us now to Super AVI Collection.
In the 1950s when pilots trusted their watches as essential tools to air navigation, Breitling made history by introducing a new flight instrument but this time in wearable form, the Ref. 765 AVI, which quickly came to be admired by pilots and how recognition came to be known as “Co-Pilot”.
The Super AVI Collection comprises now five unique chronographs that pay homage to four powerful and memorable aircraft, whose filigree silhouettes adorn the sapphire case backs.
The Super AVI P-51 Mustang
It pays homage to the best all-around fighter aircraft of its era and which was built in just 120 days whose first flight took place in 1940. Offered in two distinct versions: a stainless-steel case with a black dial and a gold-brown leather strap, and an 18k red gold case with an anthracite dial and a black leather strap.
The Super AVI Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair
Conceived as a WWII naval aircraft that had to make tricky takeoffs and landings from carriers, it was the first single-engine fighter to crack the 400 mph (640 km/h) mark. Features a blue dial, tone-on-tone chronograph counters, and a black leather strap.
The Super AVI Curtiss Warhawk
Conceived as a pursuit aircraft, it became known for its agility and ability to withstand adverse flight conditions and combat damage, and for its defiant shark-mouth nose. Comes with a green dial, white contrasting chronograph counters, and red accents, and a brown leather strap.
The Super AVI Mosquito
Conceived in a period where the shortage of aluminum and metal prevailed, wood was used in it, becoming one of the fastest aircraft built between 1940 and 1950, and for that reason using as long-distance multitask roles as a light bomber, night fighter, transport, and photographic reconnaissance aircraft. Features a polished and satin-brushed black ceramic bezel combination and a black dial with white contrasting chronograph counters, with red and orange notes.
The five chronographs have some common features, namely a 46 mm diameter by 15.9 mm thick case, bidirectional bezel with 12 hours scale, screwed crown with brand signature at 3 o’clock shadowed by two pusher buttons, sapphire glass, open-through case back, and 100 meters of water resistance. On the dial, Arabic hour markers and baton hands all filled with Super-LumiNova, GMT hand with a red arrow tip, 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6, and small seconds at 9. Powered by manufacture Caliber B04 which is COSC-certified and offers up to 70 hours of power reserve.
Available from € 9,600 for the stainless steel variants and € 22,400 for the red gold variant. With the exception of the two Super AVI P-51 Mustang models that will only be available at the brand’s official stores, all the others can also be purchased at the brand’s official retailers.
