Introducing the AP Royal Oak Ceramic Carolina Bucci LE
Audemars Piguet to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its iconic Royal Oak model has just launched a limited edition of 300 pieces.
This special edition of the Royal Oak is the result of a collaboration between the Swiss watch brand and the renowned Italian jeweller designer Carolina Bucci, who are joining for the 3rd time, after two collaborations, one in 2016 and another in 2018.
The new Royal Oak, presented in a 34mm black ceramic case, has as its maximum exponent its rainbow dial, whose construction is based on a sapphire plate filled with engraved squares in different hues, which pays homage to the Tapisserie pattern design by Gérald Genta, and which comes with golden metallisation on both sides creating a mirror effect.
The dial thus produces different visual tones depending on its exposure to light and the rotation of the wrist. Also on the dial, applied faceted hour markers and hands in 22k pink gold filled with luminescent material, which combine with the screws of the bezel and the titanium and sapphire case back, as well as the cap of the crown and the oscillating weight of the movement.
Inside operates the slim automatic movement Caliber 5800, with just 23.3mm diameter by 3.9mm thickness, which allows the watch case to be just 8.8mm thick, and offers up to 50 hours of power reserve.
Finally, it should also be noted that they will be available exclusively in Audemars Piguet boutiques and AP Houses for a price of CHF 48,500.
Our Opinion
Starting with the fact that the AP catalogues the new Royal Oak for men and women, it makes perfect sense to us, that we should not limit ourselves to the dogmas of the past, today it is perfectly normal for a man to wear a 34mm watch or even smaller and a woman 42mm or higher if you wish, the final is intended to be a fun hobby and to bring more and more people into this world.
The different rainbow dial deviates a little from the classic pattern of the common Royal Oak and that’s why it’s fun, maybe it’s not an option for everyone, but it’s sure to delight many collectors and an audience that wants to stand out from the crowd.
