Two days ago, in the Week under Review, we took a small approach to the Swatch System 51 Hodinkee Summer Edition, this new watch is the result of the collaboration between Swatch and Hodinkee and has been happening since 2017, until today it has resulted in four models, which distinguishes it from all other Swatch models are its automatic movement made up of 51 elements instead of the traditional quartz movement.
But what this new model brings, to start colours and light materials, is the perfect combination for the summer season. Its main colour is a crisp white and extends from the bracelet to the case and the dial. On the dial, we can find a mixture of distinct geometric shapes that mark the hours; therefore, they are in black circles for almost every hour, but there are some exceptions, and they are at 3 and 9 o’clock, instead of circles are rectangles in deep blue, at 12 o’clock an inverted triangle is also deep blue and at 6 o’clock a small window day. On the dial, we can also find minute and hour hands in black with a luminous glow and a second hand in light blue. This watch offers an incredible power reserve of 90 hours, 30m of water resistance, 42mm in diameter and 13.9mm thick, an ETA C10.111 movement and a price tag of $170. It is only available at the Hodinkee store or Swatch stores in Switzerland and New York.
The other “twin” launch is the Flik Flak Hodinkee Summer Edition, a brand that has been on the market since 1987 and is part of the Swatch Group, which specializes in producing children’s watches in an easy way.
This new edition, as the name indicated is a summer watch, comes with an ETA quartz movement, a dial with a light blue in the centre and white around, large Arabic hour indexes and a small scale of minutes, in addition to the hours and minutes hands, there is also a seconds hand, all these details on the dial alternate in three colours: navy blue, light blue and black. This watch comes with a nylon strap in navy blue and light blue colours and has 30m water resistance, it is available for a price of $40.
